Ohio Northern University faculty governance records
Scope and Contents
The earliest records contained in this collection are from the Academic Council (1928-1961) and meeting minutes from university faculty meetings starting in 1952. Other governing bodies represented in this collcetion include the ONU Faculty Senate, the Executive Policy Council, and University Council. This collection also contains a significant amount of records for constitutional and opeational committees that are charged through the ONU faculty constitution.
The late 1970s and early 1980s represented a time of turmoil and change around faculty governance at ONU, and the collection contains a curated collection of records on the faculty constitution from Robert Beggs documenting this time period. Common record types found throughout these records include minutes, memos, and reports.

Conditions Governing Access
This collection is open for research, however please note that records from the Personnel Committee and the Business and Apropriations Committee are restricted for research access for ten years after their creation date. A request for an exception to access restricted records can be submitted to the Archivist, who will then work with the Office of the President and University Council to review the request.
Note: In compliance with University Policy 6.1 if the user is affiliated with a media organization, or if the intended outcome for archival work is create a product that wil be featured by the media, then the user should first contact ONU's Communication and Marketing Office to coordinate their archival research/media request.

Ohio Northern University maintains copyright for institutional records in accordance with U.S. copyright law. Collections may contain third-party materials for which copyright is not help. Users are responsible for determining the appropriate use and reuse of materials.
Historical Note
Faculty governance has taken many forms throughout Ohio Northern University history, including through faculty meetings at the university and individual colleges levels, dedicated faculty groups such as Faculty Senate (1960s-1980s), and shared governance bodies such as Academic Council (1920s-1960s), Executive Policy Council (1960s-1980s), and University Council (1980s-present).

Many modern records related to faculty governance are also hosted by the Office of the Provost on the Ohio Northern University website.

Processing Information
The collection was processed in support of the creation of a preliminary public finding aid in 2019. During the processing records for committees that were charged from outside of the faculty governance systems at ONU were transfered to the records of the office responsible for oversight of the respective committees.
